Jerry Spinelli was born on February 1, 1941 in Norristown, Pennsylvania. Jerry is a noted children's author, specializing on novels written for and about early adolescence. Spinelli first decided he wanted to become a writer at the age of 16, when his high school football team won a big game. He wrote a poem about this, and the next day the poem was published in the local newspaper. Books that he has written are Milkweed, Space Station Seventh Grade, Maniac Magee (winner of the 1991 Newbery Medal), Wringer (1998 Newbery Honor book), Eggs and Stargirl. His books are mostly written for children of all ages.
